Introduce the problem/phenomenon of Interest (POI) you plan to explore in the one paragraph. 2. Conclude the introductory paragraph with a direct thesis statement that informs the reader of your purpose, or the primary objective of the paper. POI and Philosophic View 60% Identify and describe POI 1.Describe your approved POI and its significance to your advanced specialty practice. Advanced specialty practice is nurse practitioner – acute care 2. Justify the importance of the POI using evidential using current peer-reviewed literature. 3. Include specific statistic and costs related to the POI. 4. Describe the impact of the POI on the overall healthcare system, based on statistics. 5. Include at least 2 current peer-reviewed references in additions to any textbooks. Primary Philosophic View Identify & describe your primary philosophic viewpoint (Continental or Analytical). 1. Clearly identify your primary (preferred) philosophic viewpoint. 2. Describe how your philosophy influences how you view your chosen POI. 3. Discuss how your philosophy impacts how you seek and evaluate the “truth” regarding your POI. 4. Describe how your philosophy impacts the way you provide care to your patients or population. 5. Include at least 2 peer-reviewed references in addition to any textbooks. Alternative Philosophic view Identify & describe your alternative philosophic viewpoint. 1. Clearly identify your alternative viewpoint. 2. Describe the data represented by your alternative viewpoint. 3. Discuss whether the opposing or alternative view is helpful in more fully defining your POI. 4. Describe how you would incorporate this type of information in your advanced nursing practice. 5. Include at least 2 peer-reviewed references in addition to any textbooks. Ways of Knowing 10 % Ways of Knowing in Nursing 1. Summarize the 4 patterns of knowing described by Carper (1978). 2. Discuss how the 4 patterns of knowing will influence your future advanced practice role. 3. Describe how you will use the patterns to seek information needed to care for your patient or population. 4. Support your discussion with at least 1 peer-reviewed reference, citing primary sources.
