Discussion 1 Question – Discuss the differences between mandatory ethics and aspirational ethics?

Mandatory ethics are requirements that are put into place to keep the professional out of legal trouble, whereas Aspirational ethics is understanding the process of ethical statues and always live by these ethical standards as a way of life, [APA, 2017]. This approach is sometimes also referred to as consequentialist ethics being that it will focus on the consequences of an action rather than the action itself and doing what is best for the people even if one has to deviate from moral principles in certain situations. The one that is in the greatest need will receive priority over the rest for the greater good of everyone.

Question – What are the differences between principal ethics and virtue ethics?

Principle ethics is also referred to as deontological ethics that one follows the rules of moral principles regardless of the consequences. Let me explain it this way, principle ethics focuses on the morality of the action, rather than the outcome of the action. Example of principle ethic would be a lot of people are hungry and there is a small number of provisions [food and water] but everyone gets equal shares regardless of the situation.

Virtue ethics defines what is good within a person and their virtuous character like courage, loyalty, and wisdom and the way one acts, and how one thinks and their feelings. It is also the oldest theory in the world and was introduced by Ancient Greece.

Question – Which type or types of ethics are represented in your profession?

Integrity – Respect for people's rights and dignity – Concern for others welfare – Social responsibility – Ethical Standards – Informed Consent.

Within my profession one must adhere to the principles of their profession like, Beneficence and Nonmaleficence when I protect the welfare of others who I deal with professionally. Fidelity and Responsibility where I earn one trust. Integrity where I am honest, truthful with clients. Respect for people's rights and uphold their dignity, [ACA].

Above shows the ethics / principles that are involved within my profession.

Discussion 2 Week 1 – Discussion 1

Discuss the differences between mandatory ethics and aspirational ethics.

• What are the differences between principle ethics and virtue ethics?

Principle Ethics shows the base moral standard beliefs and ideals in the human services professions that are common and shared throughout the profession. Then you have the Virtue Ethics that shows the base moral standard that professional ethics are more than moral actions. They both involve a professional’s character or virtue. I believe the professional code of conduct is a Mandatory ethic and aspirational ethic and they both play a role within any ethical system by providing different approaches when making moral decisions. Mandatory ethics refer to those rules, regulations or codes of conduct which must be followed regardless of one’s personal beliefs. Psychologists recognize that fairness and justice. entitle all persons to access to and benefit from the contributions of psychology and to equal quality in the process's procedures, and services being conducted by psychologists (APA, 2017).

• Which type or types of ethics are represented in your profession?

In my administration department since we are nation-wide operation and our main corporation is based out of Atlanta, Georgia they take their code of ethics very seriously. Also, it starts with purpose The Salvation Army maintains a harmonious and ethical work environment, which honors God and serves the community, this Code of Conduct (the “Code”) has been adopted to set out the Basic Principles and Rules that all staff must follow in the performance of their work, whether they are officers, employees or volunteers. Also, this involves feeding the community, donating clothing, bus vouchers live-in facilities for families and single families, and Christmas donations at the malls for children. Another ethic that Salvation Army has is the basic principles which are all officers, employees and volunteers of The Salvation Army is expected to behave in ways that are aligned with the organization’s mission and values.

It is a lot of ethics to go by, but it is very beneficial to the organization and the programs that we have there, and it is not always easy but very necessary. To work here you must be compassionate and reach out to others including staff members and we work as a team and conduct ourselves at all times with honesty and integrity. Many issues in ethics

arise in relation to the contexts in which psychologists work however, most ethical decision-making models reproduce the way in which psychologists tend to approach ethics by focusing on ethical dilemmas and proposing a step-by-step response to deal with them Verge's, A. (2010).
