RISE Feedback:

REFLECT: I concur with “Action plans should reflect the type of services that are needed and have an idea of the expected outcome of the services” because it is in line with Hatch and Hartline’s intentional school counseling guidelines in regards to determining students needs.

INQUIRE: Can you further explain what “closing-the-gap action plans” are?

SUGGEST: I encourage you to revisit Hatch and Hartline’s MTMDSS tier interventions in order to add a citation that would illustrate your example on bullying prevention efforts.

ELEVATE: What if you re-purposed “For example, after a needs assessment, the school is having problems with bullying” as “Following Trish Hatch’s MTMDSS tier based interventions, if the school is having problems with bullying, after a needs assessment, we could… citation…”  for a more weighted argument?

Describe your Experience with social emotional learning

Over the past month me and my supervisor have been prepping for Corona Norco unified school districts mental health summit this Friday. The summit will include 1600 students that were taken from online students, Hybrid, Alternative high schools, and six of the high schools. This Friday the students will be able to attend, three workshops and a free lunch. All the workshops center around mental health. Workshops are hosted by counselors, community members, or special guest. Workshop will have a counselor in each room in case of an emergency and we will also have an emergency first aid station in case any students are triggered. The goal is for students to attend workshops they believe would benefit them and learn coping skills, Information, And local resources they can reach out to. My supervisor and I are presenting Im And a mess, what can I do?. We will be going over life stressors, How to cope, Outside resources, and  how to hack stress with the four happy hormones (dopamine serotonin, oxytocin, endorphins).  We wanted to present the importance of stress effects on the brain, Including how stress and cortisol play a big part and health. I included the video we are using below. We are stopping it right before it talks about nurturing using the mother and the baby rat. We thought this might trigger some of the students who may not have parents.

Self-care: How are you taking care of yourself to better meet the needs of your learners?

I used to be bad about self-care, not that I didn’t want to just that I had a hard time letting things be. If there was a anything that needed to be done at home, dished, sweeping, laundry I felt I had to take care of it right then and there. Thank fully I have learned how to either ask for help and or be ok with things waiting. At work I have set boundaries and only accept extra work that I know I will be able to do. This comes with years of being a yes person. Having work life balance is now a priority. I try to take at least one day a week I dedicate to doing what I want to do not what I feel I need to do. That can look like a day out with my family, siblings, friends or myself and also possibly just sitting on the couch one Moring binge watching shows I’ve been meaning to watch. If we are taking care of ourselves, we can better take care of those around us.
